Full Text of JOE Listing:
The Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs invites applications for one opening at the level of Professor. This position is the inaugural Paul Volcker Chair in the Economics of Public Policy. The ideal candidate for this Chair is a scholar/public intellectual of recognized stature who is an influential contributor to the understanding of the social, behavioral or institutional dimensions of economic policy and other economic aspects of the public policy debate. The appointee may have either a traditional academic background with a strong publication record or, like the Chair's distinguished namesake, a history of intellectual leadership in organizations responsible for some important aspect of public policy. Or, he/she may have a professional history which includes both the academy and the policy arena. While the successful candidate can be someone working in one or more of the fields listed above, an important parameter is that his/her work be relevant to leading or emerging policy issues. Active involvement in the public policy debate will be an important activity of the Chair holder.
The resources available to the Chair will include a dedicated research budget. It is hoped, but not required, that the holder of the Chair will be able to supplement the endowment income by securing grants from other sources. He/she will be asked to offer graduate courses in his/her specialty areas, and to advise Master's and Doctoral candidates. The search will remain open until the position is filled.
