Texas A&M University at Galveston invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level with expertise in coastal and marine economic analysis beginning fall 2013. Desired areas of specialization include: coastal economic development, quantitative research methods, spatial econometrics, and environmental and resource economics. The successful candidate will be based in the Department of Marine Sciences in Galveston, with a possible joint appointment as a graduate faculty member in a graduate department in College Station related to his/her research focus.

The successful candidate must have evidence of or potential for strong teaching and research performance. We are specifically looking for a person that can contribute to- and benefit from - an interdisciplinary environment and interact with colleagues in our natural sciences and resource management programs. Teaching responsibilities will include developing a curriculum for coastal and marine economics in support of our undergraduate and graduate programs in Coastal and Ocean Resources Management, Marine Science, and Marine Resources Management. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to a growing emphasis in sustainable coastal communities.

The Department is interested in candidates with a strong record of, or potential for externally funded research, scholarship, and peer-reviewed publication. Applicants must have completed their doctorate in economics, policy/planning, or a related discipline by September 1, 2013. The successful candidate must have the ability to work in an interdisciplinary setting that involves integrating data from the social, ecological, and physical sciences. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Department has recently moved into the new Ocean and Coastal Science Building, a ~100,000 sqf LEED certified facility that facilitates close interactions across all fields of science on campus. The multidisciplinary offerings of the Department also include coastal planning, coastal marine geology, theoretical chemistry, analytical chemistry/instrumental analysis, environmental chemistry, radiochemistry, biogeochemistry, environmental law, remote sensing and geospatial analyses, as well as resource management and environmental policy. Recently, the Board of Regents of Texas A&M University approved the creation of the new Institute of Sustainable Coastal Communities as a collaboration between Texas A&M University at Galveston and Texas A&M's College of Architecture. We expect the successful candidate to contribute to the development of research and academic programs of this multidisciplinary Institute.
