Full Text of JOE Listing:
Legal Economics is an elite consulting firm that is hiring PhD economists to work on cutting-edge economic analysis of legal issues. As some of the world's leading academics, our experts' scholarship has profoundly shaped the economic analysis of law, and clients turn to us to generate path-breaking new ideas. Most of our work focuses on litigation, in cases that often make billion dollar differences in the real world. We only accept cases we believe are on the right side of the question at hand, which leaves us working with plaintiffs more often than the typical consulting firm, though much of our work has also been for defendants and leading corporations.

As a boutique, we won't rotate you through multiple departments, and you won't work on enormous teams billing unnecessary hours. Instead, you'll develop your expertise quickly as you focus your energies on this uniquely stimulating and important arena. You will quickly find that we give you more responsibility than most consulting firms. Once trained, you will be expected to lead small teams on writing projects, working closely with an expert on your report, from beginning to end.

Your compensation will reflect this: new PhD economists start at $160,000, with excellent benefits plus an aggressive, transparent bonus tied to hours billed. A consultant who billed the following number of hours in her first year would be guaranteed the following bonuses: 2000 hours = $18,375 bonus; 2200 hours = $42,875 bonus; 2500 hours = $79,625. And unlike large firms, you will spend very little time on unbillable administrative work. For economists who have demonstrated their ability to work efficiently with the team, we also allow flexible work arrangements, including the ability to work from home or another city.

Requirements: PhD from an elite economics department, with top grades and outstanding written work. Must be skillful at both programming and writing. Applicants who have taken or have a background in industrial organization or antitrust economics are preferred.

Application Instructions:

If you are interested in doing creative, real-world work, while enjoying a flexible schedule and top of the line compensation, please send your resumes, references, a writing sample, and transcripts from you college and graduate school(s) to recruiting@legal-economics.com, and copy elhauge@law.harvard.edu with the subject line saying "Application to be Economics Consultant at Legal Economics".
