The American Institutes for Research (AIR) is a non-profit social science research consulting firm with over 1,600 employees who work in the areas of early childhood development; primary, secondary and adult education; healthcare policy, data and financing; international development; labor markets; and science and innovation policy. AIR prides itself in conducting high-impact, high-stakes, policy relevant projects for federal, state, and private organizations, both domestically and internationally. We are currently seeking Researchers/Economists with strong quantitative skills to join AIR's Education, Human Development, and the Workforce and International Development Divisions. Positions are available in our Washington, D.C., San Mateo, CA, and Chicago, IL offices.

Responsibilities:
The Researcher/Economist will work on multiple projects, often on a team, with responsibilities that may include:
--Developing conceptual frameworks that guide project work.
--Creating and managing large-scale data files for research, including primary data collected for projects.
--Applying appropriate techniques to analyze data, working with programming staff as necessary
--Preparing technical reports and briefing materials, and journal articles and presenting findings to clients, professional associations and the public.
--Assisting in developing new research proposals.
--Mentoring junior research analysts, sharing approaches to solving problems, and providing feedback on the work of others.
--Managing or leading projects or tasks.
--Serving as client contact for analytical or statistical expertise.

General Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in economics, public policy, or related social science field, with expertise in econometrics or applied statistics. Able to, apply advanced statistical methods, and communicate effectively about these methods to non-technical audiences. Highly proficient in SAS, STATA, or R and able to identify and apply appropriate analytical methods to a variety of problems. Experience with research design, analysis of micro-level data (including survey and test data), multilevel modeling, and statistical graphics preferred.
