AIR Health's clients include government agencies (e.g., Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, CDC, NIH), private foundations, and state governments.

The Economist will work on several projects with responsibilities that may include:
• Identifying and implementing empirical approaches that will yield the strongest causal inferences yet will be feasible given data and resource limitations
• Developing conceptual frameworks that guide project work
• Serving as client contact for analytical or statistical expertise
• Managing or leading projects or tasks
• Applying appropriate techniques to collect, analyze and report quantitative data
• Organizing and documenting analytical results and research procedures
• Preparing technical reports and journal articles and present findings to clients and to the public
• Assisting in developing and drafting new research proposals
• Mentoring research analysts, sharing approaches to solving concrete problems, and providing feedback on the work of others

A Ph.D. in economics or related field with expertise in applied microeconomics, program evaluation, econometrics or applied statistics. Highly proficient in statistical software such as SAS or STATA. Knowledge or experience with the analysis of data collected through complex sample designs, multilevel modeling, or the design of experiments and quasi-experiments. Able to apply advanced econometric/statistical methods and to communicate effectively to non-technical audiences.
