The American Institute for Economic Research (AIER - www.aier.org) is looking for economists who want to make a difference - who want to inform both the public and policymakers. Our work is published and quoted by newspapers, news outlets, and economic publications nationwide, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Barron's, Forbes, and MSNBC. Our economics researchers are supported by a full-time editorial staff, graphic and layout artists, and a top-flight public relations team. Join AIER and make a difference.
Seeking economics researchers with interests in macroeconomics, monetary economics, international finance, and/or finance. Degree in economics, finance or related field required.
Research Fellow - PhD required. The Research Fellow is a key member of the research staff responsible for writing, updating, and editing the primary publications of AIER. The Research Fellow may also assist with the Summer Fellowship Program, including teaching.
Senior Research Fellow - PhD + 5 years relevant experience. The Senior Fellow is a senior member of the economic research staff with increasing responsibility for writing, updating, and editing the primary publications of AIER. The Senior Fellow is a mentor for junior staff and an instructor in the Summer Fellowship Program. The Senior Fellow may lead major projects, research programs, and AIER efforts in joint programs with outside research groups.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
--Review/analyze the economic/financial news and government data releases;
--Plan and conduct empirical, applied, and/or policy research, and write articles based on this research suitable for AIER publications;
--Apply econometric methods to compute estimates, forecasts, and test hypotheses;
--Conduct literature reviews;
--Make on-campus and off-campus speeches/presentations, teach in AIER educational programs, engage in promotional activities such as media interviews, op-ed pieces, and video presentations;
--Attend conferences and otherwise promote AIER and support its mission;
--Work closely and cooperatively with editors/director in editing/revising any articles or reports.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
--Brief or advise the director as requested;
--Attend and contribute to regular staff meetings;
--Stay up-to-date on the latest economic research and methodologies;
--Reply to correspondence from readers and maintain files;
--Review other staff members' written work.
