The Department of Economics at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or tenured Associate Professor of Economics. To commence as early as August 2013, the position shall remain open until filled. The department seeks candidates in applied microeconomics, and welcomes interest from scholars of the economics of innovation and technological change.

The successful candidate will have an outstanding academic track record. Candidates at any rank must have earned a Ph.D. or foreign degree equivalent in Economics or closely related discipline. All degree requirements must be complete at the time of appointment. Candidates for Assistant Professor must exhibit, through accomplishments, promise of future distinction in research, scholarship and education. Candidates for Associate Professor must possess a record of excellence in scholarship as demonstrated by an emerging national and/or international reputation, a level of high quality in educational activities including teaching and advising, and significant level of service to the department, Institute, and profession. The incumbent will carry out a sustained program of high-quality research and publication, teach graduate and undergraduate courses, and serve Rensselaer's communities.

The Department of Economics is home to a faculty in a variety of applied areas of economics, and seeks to enhance its prominence in the economics of innovation and technological change. The department offers undergraduate and graduate degrees through the Ph.D. in Economics.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, founded in 1824, is the nations oldest technological university. The university has approximately 7500 undergraduate and graduate students, and is ranked among the U.S. News & World Report top 50 national universities. Rensselaer is found in the Capital Region, part of the "Tech Valley" region that is geographically close to the major metropolitan communities of New York City, Boston, and Montreal.
