The Modeling and Experiments division of Pricing at Sears Holdings Corporation (SHC) is seeking a PhD-level graduate to join its staff of economists. The Pricing team is helping to lead dramatic changes in how SHC achieves positive business outcomes through improving pricing decisions and other customer-facing services. The Modeling and Experiments division aims to use economic insight and methods at the forefront of research to achieve these objectives.
Analysts typically work with a large amount of data to create prediction models and algorithms that are tested in real time. Focus is often placed on matters related to pricing such as advertising and inventory, but also includes financial incentives and other non-pricing matters. An ideal candidate has a micro-economic background with experience is using very large datasets and has a background in experimentation, ideally running or being a part of large-scale field experiments. This is a full-time position in our Chicago, IL office.
Responsibilities include:
--Develop, maintain and enhance economic models to generate and implement profit enhancing strategies.
--Design, implement and automate modeling and analysis procedures.
--Perform scheduled and ad-hoc data driven statistical analysis and projects resulting in technical presentations.
Requirements:
--Substantial knowledge of R and Stata. Familiarity with other computer languages is a plus.
--Strong background in econometrics, ideally familiar with quasi-experimental and non-parametric modeling approaches.
--Prior experience with large amounts of data either professionally or in an academic setting: 2-4 years prior professional or graduate level modeling experience (in disciplines such as credit scoring, financial services marketing, applied micro-economics).
--Positive outlook towards work, strong work ethic and ability to work in a team environment
