This is a 12-month, 100% Extension appointment in the Department of Agricultural Economics.

Position Description: The faculty member in this position is expected to develop and implement a nationally recognized Extension program in production economics, agricultural finance and/or resource economics. Specific responsibilities will depend upon the individual hired, but include the following expectations:

--Provide producers, agribusiness professionals and policy makers with objective, research based information
--Develop statewide programs utilizing innovative teaching tools and decision support aids for decision makers
--Utilize workshops, county/state/regional presentations and coordinate with Extension communication specialists in the distribution of content for mass media programs where applicable
--Generate significant scholarly output including articles in peer-reviewed journals, Extension and Experiment Station publications, departmental papers and popular press articles
--Successfully seek external funding to support her/his program

Qualifications: A Ph.D. in agricultural economics or economics, preferably with specific training in production economics, agricultural finance or resource economics. The successful candidate will have a practical knowledge of U.S. and global agriculture, enabling her/him to work with public and private entities and agricultural producers in Mississippi. Excellent interpersonal skills and verbal and written communication skills are required for the position. Experience with Extension education is desirable but not required. Candidates who are ABD with a planned graduation date no later than December 2013 will be considered.
