The Office of the Chief Economist at the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) looks to fill one Ph.D. level economist position in 2013. Economists with research interests in applied econometrics, empirical analysis, and computational methods are encouraged to apply. We are particularly interested in candidates interested in studying the drivers of growth in the health care industry using large micro data sets like health insurance claims. Primary responsibilities include supporting research efforts in the Office of Chief Economist; producing independent research for publication in the BEA Working Paper Series, BEA's Survey of Current Business as well as refereed journals; and conveying research through presentations at conferences and university seminars.
A Ph.D. is required. Both new Ph.D.s and experienced researchers are welcome to apply. Starting salaries for Ph.D's range from $90,154 to $123,185, depending on experience and education. Recruitment bonuses and other incentives may be available.
