The Faculty of Economics of the National Research University Higher School of Economics in Moscow (as well as its branches in St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, and Perm) is seeking to make several appointments at the level of Assistant Professor. We welcome candidates with excellent backgrounds in all fields of economics. A working knowledge of Russian would be an asset although teaching will be in English.
The HSE is a major Russian university which aspires to become an internationally recognized research university. The candidate would be expected to publish in reputable peer-reviewed journals with research support provided by the university's Centre for Advanced Studies - a collaborative endeavor with Moscow's New Economic School. An appointment in conjunction with the International College of Economics and Finance (established jointly by the HSE and the London School of Economics) is also a possibility or with HSE's Faculty of Management. The appointments are for tenure-track positions and will be made for three years in the first instance, starting in September 2013, with reviews of teaching and research during the third year.
The salary range for successful candidates in the 2013-2014 academic year will be 160,000-200,000 Russian rubles per month (approximately $ 60-75 K per year at the current exchange rate) depending on experience and qualifications. An exceptionally promising or experienced candidate could be considered for a higher salary and a more senior position. HSE salaries are indexed to inflation annually and subject to a 13% flat income tax. In addition to travel support and other benefits, significant research grants can be provided. The teaching load of newly hired faculty members is at most 2 classes (80 minutes each) per week.
