West Virginia University's College of Business and Economics (CBE) solicits candidates for consideration for the position of Director of the Bureau of Business and Economic Research (BBER). BBER conducts business, economic, and public policy research on the West Virginia and regional economy. Special attention of the BBER follows the strategic initiatives of CBE, WVU, and the State with sector emphasis in hospitality/tourism, energy, health care, and innovation & entrepreneurship. Information about BBER can be found at www.bber.wvu.edu. The Director serves as an active faculty member of an academic unit within the CBE and enjoys all the rights, duties, and privileges associated with that academic appointment. As such, candidate must meet the educational and experience qualifications for appointment to an academic department within CBE. The successful candidate should have a demonstrated record of effective leadership and a record of scholarship and sponsored research predictive of meeting the challenges of the position.
Director duties and responsibilities include:
Leadership and mentorship to BBER faculty and staff;
Effective communication with media, internal, and external constituents regarding BBER research and constituent inquiries;
Significant outreach within the state and region through speaking engagements, legislative hearings, business and trade group conferences, and other outlets;
Collaboration with other entities within CBE and WVU on research and outreach relevant to state and regional economic development;
Engagement in sponsored research and underwriting support for BBER projects;
Leadership in the CBE contribution to the University goal towards the Carnegie classification of very high research activity;
Coordination of the fiscal management of the BBER activities;
Teach one course in appropriate discipline.
