GAO is seeking candidates for senior-level economist positions. GAO provides the U.S. Congress with non-partisan, fact-based, objective analyses on a wide range of government programs and policy issues. These positions require skills in applied research, effective interpersonal and teamwork skills, good organizational abilities, an ability to meet deadlines, and strong oral and written communication skills. We plan to conduct interviews at the January 2013 AEA meetings and at our headquarters in Washington D.C. to identify candidates for senior-level economist positions. U.S. citizenship is required. Center for Economics--CE works with GAO's subject matter teams to provide economic analysis in support of our work for the Congress. In general, we seek economists with interests in applied economics and econometrics. We are particularly looking for economists with applied research skills in domestic and global financial institutions and markets

Financial Markets and Community Investment--FMCI conducts work in several areas critical to the - economic and social well-being, including financial markets and financial regulation, housing, small business, insurance, financial literacy, and consumer protections for financial products. Current and recent studies include an analysis of bank failures, Dodd Frank's potential impact on lending activity, housing programs under TARP and the municipal securities market. We are looking for an experienced economist with solid applied research skills in finance-related areas.
