St. Olaf College invites applications for a tenure-track position with a joint appointment in the departments of economics and environmental studies beginning September 1, 2013. The successful candidate will have a teaching and research portfolio focused on economic development and the environment, and will teach courses and cultivate a research program in economic development and the economics of sustainability. Preference will be given to candidates who can contribute to teaching core economics courses in intermediate microeconomic theory or economic statistics, and who also are interested in developing courses that link economic development to such areas as food security, environmental sustainability, urban and regional planning, sustainable agricultural policies, climate change, and/or environmental security. Expertise in a geographical area (e.g. Africa, Asia, Latin and South America) is considered a plus. There is a 6-course per year teaching load assigned to this position, which is evenly divided between the two departments.
Applicants should demonstrate potential for developing an active and innovative scholarly career with teaching and research interests emphasizing the overlap between economic development and questions of sustainability. The College is particularly interested in encouraging faculty research programs that lend themselves to collaborative engagement with its undergraduate students. The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to teaching, service, and research excellence in a liberal arts environment. PhD strongly preferred.
