The Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy at the University of Virginia seeks applications for a tenured associate or full professor position in policy analysis to begin in Fall 2013. We are open to scholars who conduct policy-oriented research on a wide range of domestic or global issues. Successful candidates must have the ability to (1) teach policy analysis courses for Master of Public Policy (MPP) students, (2) teach introductory and upper-level undergraduate courses for public policy and leadership majors, and (3) supervise capstone projects in which MPP students carry out analyses of real-world problems and weigh the tradeoffs of policy options for live client organizations. We also have a preference for candidates who can also teach courses on cost-benefit and cost-effectiveness analysis, program evaluation, or research methods. Candidates must have a distinguished academic record appropriate for a tenured appointment. We welcome applications from scholars who have earned doctorates in public policy, economics, political science, and related fields. Prior experience teaching in a public policy school is a plus.
Built upon the strong foundation of one of the nation's top public universities, the Batten School combines rigorous training in policy analysis with a unique emphasis on the acquisition of leadership skills and an understanding of the changing context of public policy in the 21st century. The core faculty includes economists, political scientists, psychologists, and historians, enriched by professors of practice who bring real-world policymaking expertise to the classroom. The School currently offers the MPP degree, as well as an accelerated MPP program and an undergraduate major in public policy and leadership. The School also offers dual degree programs with the Darden School of Business (MPP/ MBA), the School of Law (MPP/ JD) and other UVA professional schools. Last fall, the Batten School moved into its permanent home, Garrett Hall, which underwent a multi-million dollar renovation and is located adjacent to Thomas Jefferson's historic Lawn. The School is made possible by a $100 million endowment gift from the late Frank Batten, Sr.
