The National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) has an opening for a Research Specialist. The US and Europe have undergone large scale layoffs, yet their full impact on earnings and health is not well understood. In this NIH-funded project, Professor Till von Wachter of UCLA is leading the effort to measure the effect of employment shocks on earnings and health. This position will analyze multiple individual level data sources to help understand how employment shocks affect worker outcomes.
Along with other researchers, this position involves:
* Independent research on incidence and effects of employment shocks.
* Statistical analyses using SAS and Stata on large-scale administrative data from US and Germany.
* Independent work with senior researchers and programmers.
* Documentation of datasets and analyses.
* Drafting papers and handling revisions.
Candidates will have:
* PhD in economics.
* Fluency with SAS, STATA; in-depth knowledge of panel-data econometric methods.
* 2-4 years experience with individual-level administrative wage data.
* Excellent writing, editorial skills; ability to synthesize data qualitatively and quantitatively.
* Fluent in English and German.
* Ability to work independently.
