The Office of Regulatory Economics of the New York State Department of Public Service has an opening for an Associate Economist (Regulatory Economics), in Albany, NY. Duties include: analyzing the competitiveness of electric, gas, and telecommunications markets; analyzing other regulatory economic issues such as pricing, energy efficiency, renewable energy subsidies and incentive mechanisms; making policy recommendations; and testifying in public hearings.
The minimum qualifications include: (1) at least one year of full-time experience conducting economic research related to public utility regulation, accompanied by either two years of additional full-time professional experience conducting economic research or two years of graduate study in economics; or (2) a PhD in economics with a dissertation on public or private electric, gas, water or telecommunications utilities. Also required is either a Bachelor's degree in economics, or a Bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 18 semester credit hours in economics and an additional 6 semester credit hours from among economics, econometrics, mathematics, research methods, operations research, computer science and/or statistics.
Currently, Associate Economists earn between $66,375 - $83,954.
