10 faculty positions (open ranks), Full-time appointments

The newly established Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA) is launching the faculty hiring process and inviting applications for full-time faculty positions at the level of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor. The new appointments will be made throughout 2013. Newly recruited faculty members are expected to join in a new interdisciplinary education and training program at KNDA. We are looking for academics and practitioners ready to contribute to improving foreign policy-making through innovative teaching and research. Extensive engagement and partnership with policy communities, think tanks, and professional schools is an essential part of curriculum at KNDA. All courses are taught in English.

We are offering 10 open rank positions with full-time appointments in the following areas:

--International negotiation
--Communication and diplomacy
--Foreign policy strategy and decision-making
--Public administration in international relations
--Strategic management and diplomacy
--Crisis management
--Ethics in public life
--Korean studies
--Public diplomacy
--New global issues (e.g. climate change, cyber security, maritime security, etc.)

* The Academy expects the above subjects to be taught in combination with the following fields: international relations-, regional- and/or country-based cases of geopolitics, security (nonproliferation, arms control & reduction, terrorism), non-traditional security, energy security, sustainable development, human rights, international finance and trade, international organization, and/or regional politics.

We are looking for candidates with the following characteristics:

--Outstanding academic or professional credentials with skills to provide a professional education program for career diplomats;
--Experience within the foreign policy and/or think tank community, preferably with expertise in policy making at national, regional and/or international levels;
--A proven record of delivering high-quality innovative teaching including the case method;
--Ambition and talent to influence public debates on foreign policy.

Terms and Compensation:

--An internationally competitive salary with fringe benefits commensurate with the candidates' qualifications and experience.
--Up to five appointments are tenured positions. The rest are non-tenured, with the renewable term of 3 to 5 years.

About KNDA:

Opened on March 1, 2012, KNDA is responsible for the recruitment and training of career diplomats in Korea. It expects to recruit its first cohort of students beginning September 2013. Operating under the supervision of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT), it is located separately and has considerable autonomy to organize its work. Along with its professional training and educational programs, KNDA conducts research on foreign policy, national security, and global issues. The Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security (IFANS), which has been the government's primary foreign policy think tank for the last fifty years, is now housed within KNDA with its renewed and expanded research programs.
