The American Institutes for Research (AIR) is one of the largest behavioral and social science research organizations in the world. AIR is a collaborative organization that works with clients to examine a wide range of projects from early childhood development to adult education as well as individual and organizational performance.

The Research Associate will support and contribute to the afterschool field through high quality data analysis for research and evaluation projects with the Afterschool and Expanded Learning group within the Education, Human Development and the Workforce Program.

This position will be based in either our Naperville, IL or Chicago, IL office.

Responsibilities:
--Understands the mission around education reform, quality improvement, and the field of afterschool
--Collects, compiles, validates, interprets, and analyzes data and trends using standard practices and techniques.
--Compiles, merges, and aggregates data files using quantitative analysis software to answer specific research and evaluation questions
--Applies quantitative and/or qualitative analysis techniques and methods.
--Works on moderately complex assignments under indirect supervision.
--Articulates findings in writing and through presentations.
--Communicates project support needs and requests to senior management and clientele, provides administrative support where applicable.
--Conducts literature reviews and writes sections of proposals and deliverables.
--Responsible for maintaining and checking the accuracy of data for assigned projects.
--Utilizes external resources to supplement, organize, and contribute to tasks and projects.

Qualifications:
--Bachelor's degree in the social sciences or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
--Minimum of 3-5 years experience working with and analyzing large data sets (nationwide or statewide databases); Experience with the afterschool, youth development, or extended learning time content areas preferred.
--Experience with SPSS/SAS required; qualitative software experience (NVivo) preferred.
--Knowledge of quantitative analysis and research design.
--Must possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
--Ability to think and communicate complex ideas around systematic approaches to program quality
--Ability to balance participation in multiple large and complicated projects and work as a part of a dynamic team.
--Ability to clearly articulate findings in writing and in presentations
--Ability to work with a variety of educational stakeholders and audiences.
Ability to work independently on detailed assignments.
