Responsibilities:
The Principal Health Economist will design and lead research and evaluation studies or technical assistance projects in the areas of health care economics, financing, and payment policy. This would include studying innovative reimbursement methods and system redesign at the payer (Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, private insurance, DoD, VA), provider (acute and long-term, inpatient and ambulatory), and consumer (beneficiary and patient) levels of analysis. Study methods will include analysis of large data sets, design and evaluation of reimbursement and financing innovations, complex statistical modeling, and simulations.
--Provide technical leadership and management of research or technical assistance projects
--Communicate the results and impact of AIR's work via participation in professional meetings, advisory panels, or publishing research results in peer-reviewed publications.
--Engage in business development activities, including identifying opportunities and strategic partnerships, cultivating relationships with existing and potential new clients, writing proposals, developing budgets, and expanding AIR Health's areas of expertise.

Qualifications
--Ph.D. in economics and 5+ years of related experience or a Master's degree in economics with 10+ years related experience in health economics or health care finance.
--Excellent knowledge of the organization and reimbursement of health care services in the U.S. is required.
--Candidates must have demonstrated leadership and management skills
--Successful candidates will possess business development skills, including the ability to engage in strategic thinking, identify opportunities, and obtain new funding for research and technical assistance projects.
--A strong record of project leadership, writing winning contract and grant proposals, publications, presentations, or participation in panels and workgroups is a plus.
--Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a collaborative environment are a must.
