Working with and reporting to the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation of the Millennium Villages Project (MVP), the Senior Statistician will have responsibility for developing and providing supporting quantitative aspects of evaluation design and data analysis from the MVP and related MDG Scale-up initiatives. The individual would also have responsibility for training and capacity development in the application and interpretation of statistical data with the team in New York, the MDG Centres in Bamako and Nairobi as well as in the MVP Project sites.
The Senior Statistician will contribute to decisions regarding evaluation design for MVP and related inititives. Perform analysis of multisector longitudinal data sets, including application of the most up to date approaches to cluster-level analysis and multi-level modeling of intervention effects. In addition, the individual will provide support to junior colleagues to validate and ensure the quality of their analyses. He/She will also Develop and deliver training and strengthen capacity development in statistics of the New York based Monitoring and Evaluation team, the MDG Regional Support Centres in Bamako and Nairobi, as well as the Science Coordinators of the Millennium Village field sites. He/She will generate statistical content of program reports, presentations and scientific manuscripts and also contribute to the generation of study proposals and grant applications.
Qualifications:
--Bachelor's degree required and five (5) years of related experience required.
--Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills including the ability to give clear and concise presentations of complex material.
--Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
--Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and manage multiple tasks with changing deadlines in a fast paced environment.
--A high degree of technical competence in the main statistical software packages including SPSS, Stata and/or R
Preference will be given to candidates who have a:
--PhD in quantitative methods, statistics or a related discipline, fluency in French and teaching experience.
--At least two (2) years of post-degree work on research design and analysis issues
--Proven track record of high quality published outputs including book chapters, reports and papers. This must include primary authorship of scientific peer-reviewed manuscripts in education, health or a related discipline.
