West Virginia University's College of Business and Economics (SBE) is seeking an outstanding candidate to provide leadership for its Bureau of Business and Economic Research (BBER). BBER conducts economic and public policy research with a focus on the West Virginia economy. The West Virginia Economic Outlook Project provides short- and long-term forecasts and analysis at the state, MSA and regional level and conducts conferences and briefings throughout the state. Other program areas include demography, labor, state and local public finance, health, education reform, energy and related areas. BBER personnel currently include four Ph.D. economists/demographers, one economist, undergraduate and graduate research assistants and affiliated faculty. Duties and responsibilities include:
1. Provide leadership and mentorship to BBER faculty and staff to continue provision of timely and quality economic and business research to the executive, legislative, business and economic development communities throughout the state.
2. Engage in sponsored research and underwriting support for BBER projects.
3. Collaborate with other entities within CBE and WVU on research and outreach relevant to state and regional economic development.
4. Provide significant outreach within West Virginia through speaking engagements, conferences and other outlets.
5. Conduct scholarly research within their area of specialization and publish results in top tier academic journal and other outlets. Preferred fields of interest include economic forecasting, regional economics, state and local public finance and health.
6. Teach one course per year.
Qualifications:
The successful applicants should have a Ph.D. in economics and a demonstrated record of high quality scholarship and sponsored research to qualify for appointment and tenure at the associate/full level within the Department of Economics. The ideal candidate should have prior management experience within an organized economic research center.
