Primary Purpose
The Research Director/Leader is a highly qualified individual who by their leadership exhibits ingenuity, creativity and resourcefulness in:
1. Application and/or development of significantly advanced scientific methods, theories and concepts;
2. Planning and management of research and development programs;
3. Guiding application of scientific discipline to programs in areas critical to the Health Research and Policy Division long-range objectives;
4. Identifying and resolving problems associated with the development and implementation of strategic research programs; and,
Responsibilities
Provide leadership in conceptualizing, organizing and implementing successful research programs in health-services/outcomes/economics and related strategic areas, to include:
1. Lead and direct multidisciplinary teams with accountability for high quality technical reports, manuscripts and other deliverables, satisfied clients, and sound financial management of research projects
2. Contribute substantively to planning and executing marketing and project development activities for public sector clients
3. Organize and lead successful proposal efforts on significant grants and contracts
Qualifications
1. Experience leading significant health research programs
2. Experience designing, conducting and disseminating implementation research projects and programs
3. Experience with large healthcare related databases derived from electronic medical records
Requirements
PhD or equivalent in relevant field (e.g., health services research, health economics or related fields) with 15+ years of experience with health services, outcomes or implementation research experience, and is a recognized expert as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national meetings, in addition to:
1. Extensive track record in obtaining government sponsored research funding through grants and contracts
2. Experience designing, planning and managing health services/outcomes/implementation research and demonstration projects
3. Working knowledge of the multiple databases in use by government for health services/outcomes research including databases maintained by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other administrative and survey databases
