Boston University seeks an internationally-recognized Director for the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future. The Pardee Center promotes interdisciplinary, policy-relevant, and future-oriented research that contributes to long-term improvements in the human condition, while also contributing to public discourse on related issues. The center's activities are defined by its longer-range vision and are not confined to any particular set of issues: its events, task forces, and publications span a range of disciplines, including economics, public health, law, politics, management, geography, engineering, and environmental sciences. The Pardee Center is an autonomous center with its own professional staff and discretionary budget, whose director reports directly to the provost. It has a cross-university mandate that allows it to draw fully on the exceptional depth and breadth of Boston University's research community while also embracing participation by scholars and practitioners beyond the university. The new director will have an extraordinary opportunity to help shape the direction of forward-looking research within Boston University as well as to contribute to national and global academic and policy discourse. The successful candidate will have achieved prominence in the fields of scholarship, policy research, and/or policymaking. S/he will also a vision for policy-relevant and future-oriented research agenda, entrepreneurial skills, a passion for innovative ideas, and an ability to reach out across the university and to scholars and policy entrepreneurs globally. In addition to administering the activities of the center, the Director will serve as a professor or professor of the practice in an academic or professional department and will be expected to maintain his/her own teaching and research agenda.
