Manufacturers Alliance for Productivity and Innovation (MAPI), a professional education and business analysis association located in Rosslyn, Virginia, seeks an economist to join its economics team. Strong writing, oral communication, and interpersonal skills are required. The economist will focus on evaluating the impact that regulation and public policy choices have on the U.S. manufacturing industry. The person will give presentations, write briefings on regulation and public policy topics, and respond to membership requests. A fundamental knowledge of how to evaluate the cost/benefit of regulation and the analytic skills to estimate the impact on manufacturing industries is important, as is the ability to work independently on multiple assignments. The economist will also coordinate the activities of MAPI benchmarking/peer discussion groups, composed of business executives from member companies. Prior experience organizing the programs of conferences and/or other executive meetings is a plus. It is important that the candidate has prepared and delivered presentations to executive or peer groups. Some travel is required. The position requires a Masters degree, PhD preferred, plus five years or more professional experience in the regulation and policy field.
