This post is based in Aberdeen as part of the Scottish Institute for Research in Economics (SIRE) http://www.sire.ac.uk/, which is a joint research venture in its fifth year of the Universities of Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Heriot-Watt, St Andrews, Stirling and Strathclyde, supported by funding from the Scottish Funding Council. The post adds to the University of Aberdeen's commitment to SIRE, which presently includes a Full Professor and a Reader. We now seek to appoint a further Full Professor in Economics together with a concurrent advertised appointment of a Lecturer.
SIRE pools key areas in three thematic programmes; Behaviour, Incentives and Contracts, Work and Well-being and Macroeconomics, Financial Linkages and the Regions. Whilst the University of Aberdeen, in conjunction with the Universities of Dundee and Stirling plays a leading role in the Work and Well-being programme, it also contributes to Behaviour Incentives and Contracts.
Aberdeen has internationally renowned expertise in the areas of experimental, health, labour and resource economics. Facilitated by SIRE, Aberdeen has committed major resources to building research capacity, involving increases in research personnel as well as the establishment of a state-of-the-art experimental laboratory. In RAE 2008, 65% of research submitted in Economics (UOA 34) was judged to be 3* or 4*, with a weighted average score of 2.85. On this basis, Economics in Aberdeen is ranked third among Scottish Universities and 18th within the UK. It overtook 8 UK departments placed above it in the 2001 RAE, a rise in the rankings only matched by Bristol.
There is a preference for candidates whose research falls under the Work and Well-being programme. However all qualified individuals in all areas of Economics are strongly encouraged to apply.
Closing date: 16th January 2012.
