An opportunity exists for a position in the Department of Economics at the Associate Professor level. The successful applicant can have research interests in any field of economics, but needs to have extensive experience of using econometrics in their research. The successful applicant will be required to contribute to the teaching of a first-year Business Statistics course, as well as teaching higher-level courses in their area of research expertise.
The University of Otago is New Zealand's leading research university. In the most recent national research evaluation exercise - equivalent to the British RAE and the Australian ERA - Otago was ranked first in Economics and first overall. The Department offers an undergraduate major programme in Economics and contains a lively group of postgraduate (Masters and PhD) students. A departmental travel fund finances attendance at international conferences, and helps Otago economists to remain connected to the international academic community. The primary criteria for appointment will be a demonstrated track record of excellence in research and evidence of high quality, research-informed teaching and postgraduate supervision. The successful applicant will have a PhD in economics or econometrics, and a convincing record of high quality peer reviewed publications. The successful applicant will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to research leadership. In addition to teaching in a specialist area, the successful applicant will also be expected to contribute to the teaching of a first-year Business Statistics course.
