The Old Dominion University Department of Economics seeks a highly qualified senior individual who is capable of fulfilling several interesting roles as a public economist. This person will teach 4 courses per year, conduct research, and be actively involved in the University's annual State of the Region report and Economic Forecasting Project with the aim of assuming leadership of one or both in the future. The State of the Region report and the Economic Forecasting Project are highly regarded enterprises that attract widespread regional attention and large audiences at periodic public events. Hence, this individual must be skilled in addressing large audiences, handling questions and answers, and explaining economic issues and events to the media. This individual will possess the econometric skills necessary to be involved with the Economic Forecasting Project. Old Dominion University enrolls approximately 24,000 students and is located in the Hampton Roads, Virginia MSA containing 1.6 million people. The University's major campus is in Norfolk, but three other significant regional campuses exist. One of these campuses is in Virginia Beach, which boasts almost 30 miles of white sand beaches. Abundant research and consulting opportunities are potentially available. The Department offers a master's degree in Economics and the College of Business Administration offers a Ph.D. degree in Business.
The ideal candidate for this position will possess a Curriculum Vitae that will support his/her appointment to a tenured full professorship as well as the talents to participate in the State of the Region report and Economic Forecasting Project. Specialty fields within economics are flexible; a Ph.D. in economics is required. Compensation will be very competitive.
