The Department of Economics in partnership with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Center for Health Policy at the University of New Mexico (UNM), invites applications for a faculty appointment in Economics beginning August 1, 2010. This appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, in a probationary position leading to a tenure decision.

Minimum qualification is a doctoral degree in Economics or related field before start of employment.

The preferred candidate will be a scholar early in his or her career chosen on the basis of strength and breadth of performance, according to the following:
- demonstrated interest and the potential for excellence in conducting theoretically significant, empirical research congruent with the missions of the Department of Economics (http:// unm.edu/~econ) and the RWJF Center (http://healthpolicy.unm.edu/) ;
- demonstrated research interests and the potential for excellence in health economics and/or policy, broadly defined;
- demonstrated or potential excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in health economics as well as in teaching either core economics theory courses at the graduate level or econometric methods at the graduate level;
- secondary specialization in resource and environmental, public finance, labor, or international and development economics, within the context of the candidate's primary research in applied health economics;
- the ability to mentor graduate students in studies leading to the doctoral degree in economics with a focus on health economics and policy;
- demonstrated potential for excellence in research-related health economics and policy pertinent to Latino or Native American populations or other populations experiencing racial/ethnic health disparities.
