JOE - December 2009
Title: Dean, The Lorry I. Lokey Graduate School of Business, Mills College
Section: US: Full-Time Academic (Permanent, Tenure Track or Tenured) Location: Oakland, CA, USA JEL Classification: 00 -- Default: Any Field Deadline Date: 12/2009 JOE ID Number: 200912_393425
Mills College, classified by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a Master's/M institution, provides undergraduate programs for women and graduate programs for men and women. Mills offers Master's degrees in ten areas and a doctoral degree in education leadership. For 2009-2010, Mills has enrolled 926 undergraduate women and 584 graduate women and men. Among these Master's programs is the Master of Business Administration in the Lorry I. Lokey Graduate School of Business.
Mills is seeking a new Dean of the Lokey Graduate School of Business. Founded in 2001, the School is open to both women and men and offers a focused curriculum with flexible program options and a commitment to social responsibility and diversity. As the only business school in the western United States focusing on women in business, it is poised to become a national leader in business education. The Dean will guide this growth, with responsibilities for the academic programs, budget, enrollment, fundraising, and leadership of staff and faculty. This is an opportunity to capitalize on the distinguishing features of the School to shape its next phase of development, to raise its visibility, and to create new opportunities for students. Originating from the Mills College Economics Department, the School has grown impressively under the leadership of its founding dean, Dr. Nancy Thornborrow. Enrollments have increased, the curriculum has gained depth and breadth, and the School has already attracted major gifts. A new building was completed this year, providing ample space for growth. The students, faculty, staff, and Mills community are ready for the next stage of institutional development and seek an academically accomplished Dean who shares their values: achievement with integrity, diversity in all its forms, and open collaboration. The future Dean will have the drive and capacity to establish a nationally recognized business school true to its founding principles of teaching equitable and ethical leadership in an environment that sustains both academic excellence and social responsibility. The successful candidate is a committed business educator, administrator and innovator with a strong record guiding organizations to new levels of excellence; partnering with faculty to catalyze rigorous, exciting areas of academic inquiry; teaching and engaging students; managing a growing organization's resources and operations; and actively supporting diversity in all its forms. S/he will possess academic and/or professional credentials for a faculty appointment in a leading business school.
