AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY, Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics (CAPPE), Incentives for Global Health (IGH), Canberra, Australia I1 Public Health Economics
Full-time Senior Researcher; three years. Spanning three universities, ARC-funded Special Research Centre
CAPPE is the largest applied-ethics centre in the world. Within CAPPE and with a generous grant from the UK-based BUPA Foundation, IGH works to increase access to medicines worldwide by complementing existing
innovation incentives. We seek to pioneer a second kind of patent, optional for innovators, that rewards holders

patent2 holders allow the open manufacture, distribution and sale of their products (www.patent2.org). The
successful candidate will develop a mechanism to determine the rewards attributable to the various patent2
holders, and will have: PhD in health economics or possibly another field in economics; ability to pursue
independent research in cooperation with global interdisciplinary team; interest (and ideally expertise) in global
public health; strong understanding of cost-effectiveness analysis, methods of estimating benefits of quasi-public goods, and contingent valuation methods. Remuneration: A$81,171-93,181, depending on qualifications,
plus employer superannuation contributions of 17%. Deadline: 30 September 2007 or until filled. Email
