The Department of Economics in the Labovitz School of Business and Economics at UMD has a tenure-track opening at either the Assistant Professor or Instructor level beginning August 2008. Candidates with a Ph.D. in Economics are preferred, but ABD from a doctoral program in Economics with a clear plan for completion by September 1, 2009, will be considered. A Ph.D. is required for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. Primary field of specialization in Urban and Regional Economics as well as ability to teach core courses in economics (principles, statistics, and microeconomic theory) and electives including urban/regional economics are required; a secondary specialization in Transitional Economies is preferred. College-level teaching (at least one course in Economics) is required; three years college teaching experience in economics is preferred. Demonstrated evidence of effective teaching and communication skills appropriate to a faculty position is required. Evidence of potential for scholarship and a demonstrated commitment to research in Economics are required. A documented research record of published peer reviewed articles in Economics-related journals is preferred. Applicants must exhibit a willingness to advise students and fulfill service expectations to the department, school, campus, community and professional organizations. The normal teaching load is 15 semester credits per year. The Department will be represented at the American Economic Association Meetings in New Orleans in January 2008.
