ZZ Head, Department of Economics

Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Head of the Department of Economics in the College of Business Administration (CBA) at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). Located just west of Chicago's Loop, UIC, with 26,000 students, is the largest university in the Chicago area. UIC is a major research university offering bachelor degrees in 88 academic areas, master's degrees in 86 disciplines, and doctorates in 58 specializations. The Economics Department is one of five reporting to the dean of the College of Business Administration. The head is responsible for the leadership and management of the department, which has 19 tenure track faculty and three non-tenure track faculty. The Economics Department offers several undergraduate degree programs and minors for students in the CBA and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The department also offers several graduate programs: the MA in Economics, the joint MA/Economics and MBA, the Ph.D. in Economics, and the Economics track in the Ph.D. in Business Administration. The department's research strengths are in applied fields with specializations in Health, Labor, Urban, and International. These strengths are aligned with UIC's mission as an urban research university and provide a distinctive focus for its Ph.D. program. In the past 10 years, the department's current faculty members have published or have in press 31 books and 230 refereed journal articles and book chapters. UIC economics faculty are currently on the editorial boards of 26 academic journals, and serve as editor, co-editor, or associate editor for 8 journals. The Department of Economics has an outstanding record of funded research. Academic qualifications suitable for a full professor appointment are required. Administrative experience is desirable. The salary is competitive based on qualifications. The starting date for the position is August, 2008.
