The Food and Resource Economics Group, Faculty of Land and Food Systems (http://www.landfood.ubc.cca/fre/), invites applications for nominations to a Tier II Canada Research Chair in Food Market Analysis (Assistant Professor — tenure track). The Canada Research Chairs Program was established by the Government of Canada to foster world-class university research (http://www.chairs.gc.ca). Candidates for the Chair, which is a full-time, tenure track position, are expected to be leading applied economists in the area of food, health, and/or industrial organization of food markets. Research topics could include food demand, food safety and regulation, economics of nutrition, obesity, nutrition in the developing world, analysis of agricultural contracts and supply chains, competition and structural changes within the marketing chain, and others. The research setting will allow candidates the opportunity to collaborate and interact with world-class researchers in the fields of nutrition and agricultural sciences, business and economics. The successful candidate should have demonstrated potential in teaching excellence and will be expected to teach and supervise students at the graduate and/or undergraduate level. Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in agricultural economics, economics, or a related discipline at the time of appointment. Anticipated start date is July 1, 2008.
