Q1 Agricultural Economics

Professor and Head, Agricultural Economics--The Department of Agricultural Economics includes 21 faculty members and 19 professionals and support staff. The Department offers a B.S. degree in Agricultural Economics and Business, and a M.S. degree in Agricultural Economics. In addition, a Ph.D. program in the area of Natural Resource Economics has recently been developed in collaboration with the Department of Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries. The department also serves as the academic home for the Agricultural Policy Analysis Center, the Agricultural and Extension Education Program, and the Extension MANAGE program. The Department Head provides leadership to develop and deliver nationally and internationally recognized programs in teaching, research, Extension, and service and provides leadership for a program of activities that meets the needs of eligible clientele regardless of race, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, religion or veteran status. This is to be achieved by: Interacting with faculty and external constituencies to determine direction and priorities; recruiting and hiring outstanding faculty and staff; planning and conducting annual performance reviews; retaining, motivating, and strengthening faculty and staff through active engagement, mentoring, and professional development programs; recruiting, counseling and advising students majoring in the discipline; representing the department to external constituencies; and creating an environment that fosters diversity, collegiality, and teamwork. The successful candidate must qualify for the rank of professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics with an earned doctoral degree in agricultural economics, economics, or other closely related field. The candidate must demonstrate evidence of exceptional academic achievements including extramural funding; effective leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills; experience with teaching, research, and/or Extension programs at a land grant university, and understanding of and commitment to excellence for all three functions; experience in assessing priorities and adapting to a changing environment with creativity and innovation; and commitment to maintaining and expanding diversity and knowledge of equal employment opportunity and affirmative actions.
