I1 Health Economics

The Department of Health Management and Policy, in the College of Public Health at The University of Iowa seeks tenure track eligible candidates for positions at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor of Health Economics. The position reports to the Head, Department of Health Management and Policy. The Department is one of five academic units and 28 research and training centers within the College. Over the past six years, the Department of Health Management and Policy has significantly enhanced its faculty complement, research portfolio, and academic programming. The 12 primary Department faculty serve as PIs or Co-PIs on $5.5 million in active research grant and contract support that comes through our Center for Health Policy and Research, as well as grant support that comes through our partnership with the VA HSR&D Center of Excellence. The Department has strong collaborative arrangements with the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, other colleges and departments throughout the University, and academic and practice units throughout the nation. The Department's M.H.A. program and Ph.D. program have a strong history of excellence in attracting, training, and placing students. An M.P.H. degree program has recently been developed. Dual degree programs are well-established with the Colleges of Business, Law, and the Department of Urban and Regional Planning. Nearly 1000 alumni of the M.H.A. program work in a wide variety of health organizations throughout the nation and overseas. Ph.D. program alumni hold positions in various academic units, professional associations, as well as operational settings. The Alumni Association is a strong and founding partner in the College, and provides significant financial and advisory resources to the Department. Candidates must possess a doctoral degree in economics, health economics, or a related area or an equivalent doctoral degree. Evidence of publications and extramural research funding in health services research should be commensurate with years of professional experience. S/he should be able to mentor graduate students and contribute effectively to innovative instructional programs in both the doctoral program and master's degree curricula. The candidate should also understand the business of health care and be able to foster collaboration in a multi-disciplinary group, between academic departments, and across the university, private health systems and public health institutions. Candidates seeking position at rank of Associate Professor or Professor should be able to mentor junior faculty.
