CeMENT: Mentoring for Junior Faculty

Every other year CSWEP organizes a regional CeMENT workshop geared toward female faculty at institutions where teaching performance is emphasized in the tenure decision, but research output is also expected.  The next regional workshop will occur immediately before the Southern Economic Association (SEA) meetings in Tampa.  The two-day workshop will be held on November 21-22, 2013.  Click here for an application.  Applications are due May 15, 2013.

Every other year CSWEP also organizes a national mentoring (CeMENT) workshop geared toward female faculty in tenure-track positions at PhD granting economics departments in the U.S., or at institutions with similar research expectations. The next national mentoring workshop will occur immediately after the 2014 ASSA meetings in Philadelphia, taking place Jan 5-7, 2014.  A call for applications will be announced in July 2013 and applications will be due in September 2013. Click here for a list of past mentors at previous national workshops.

The mentoring workshops consist of a two-day program in which participants are arranged into small groups based on their research area under the direction of senior (tenured) faculty mentors.  Group members and mentors discuss and offer feedback on the participants’ research.  Workshops also typically include larger how-to sessions on topics such as: publishing, developing a tenure case, writing a grant, teaching, conferences and networking, and work/life balance.

Participants in our mentoring workshops historically have received binders of professional development materials relating to publishing, teaching, grants, and other relevant topics.  CSWEP is now making these materials available here.
