Submission Guidelines

READ GUIDELINES THOROUGHLY.  PAPERS WILL NOT BE REVIEWED IF THEY DO NOT FOLLOW STYLE GUIDELINES.

Papers should be submitted electronically to http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/aer

Upon receipt of the paper, a confirmation email will be sent electronically. The submission is not complete if a confirmation email has not been received.
  1. Manuscripts should not exceed 50 pages.
  2. Papers should be typed and double spaced in 12 point Times New Roman, or similar font.  Margins should be one inch top, bottom, and sides.  The font and margin requirements also apply to tables, footnotes, and reference lists.
  3. If you have data not intended for publication, please include “Not Intended for Publication,” at the top of the document and upload this as a separate PDF.
  4. Please submit an anonymous PDF of the manuscript. Also, submit a title  page with each author's name and contact information, and including any acknowledgements that have appeared in previous working papers as a separate PDF. This page will not be sent to the referees.
  5. Authors should not be identified anywhere in the manuscript. This includes links to datasets or appendices that are posted on the individual Web pages of the author(s).
  6. Remove all acknowledgements from the manuscript.
  7. Include an abstract of 100 or fewer words.
  8. Fully reference all prior work on the same subject and compare the submitted paper to that work.
  9. All data used in analysis must be clearly and precisely documented.
  10. All data used in analysis must be made available to any researcher for purposes of replication. See Data Availability Policy.
  11. Any requests for an exemption from the data availability policy must be made in the cover letter when the paper is first submitted.
  12. A reference list is required. See Sample References for the correct format. Be sure to cite papers with names and titles as they appear in the published article.
  13. If your paper is selected for publication, appendices longer than five pages will only appear on our Web site and not in the printed journal.
