Study of American Families, 1994
This study extends the General Social Survey (GSS) with information on "the role of families in the transmission and maintenance of socioeconomic inequality." To this end, they collected data on GSS respondents' first occupation, mother's occupations when respondents were young, and GSS respondents' first spouses (if married more than once). Another extension to the GSS was a short test of cognitive ability. Finally, additional information was obtained on the respondents' siblings.
The data is available on-line, and the staff will archive datasets onto CD-ROMs for users on or off campus (the University of Wisconsin).
