General Social Survey (GSS)

"The GSS (General Social Survey) is an almost annual 'omnibus,' personal interview survey of U.S. households conducted by the National Opinion Research Center." The first one was run in 1972; it has been run almost every year since. In total, there have been some 35,000 respondents answering a very wide variety of questions of interest to social scientists. Of interest to economists are questions on economic policy, as well as income received.
