|Description:||IZA Topic Week: The Political Economy of Labor Market Reform in Transition and Emerging Economies|
|Location:||Bonn, IZA, Germany|
|Subject:||At this IZA topic week we will bring together economists and labor economists who have worked on the political economy of reforms in general and of labor markets reforms in transition and emerging economies. As we can perceive the transition context as a quasi-natural experiment, it is interesting for labor economists in general to learn from the experiences of transition and emerging economies. Questions addressed will be focused on both normative and positive aspects of political economy of labor market reform, e.g., on how to build coalitions to implement reforms and minimize the likelihood of reversal, which macroeconomic and fiscal policies facilitate labor market reforms, which institutional set up is conducive to labor market reforms, and which pressure groups have particular influence on the reform process.
