|Dates:||January 10-11, 2006|
|Description:||96th EAAE-Seminar "Causes and Impacts of Agricultural Structures"|
|Subject:||The seminar builds on two lines of research within agricultural economics and sociology, trying to fit them together and to show their future perspectives. The first is research concerned with explaining structural change. The last two decades have seen enormous progress in constructing quantitative models for explaining changing numbers of farms, be it on the level of single farms, on the regional or on the national level. Also on the theoretical level, important contributions were made to understand the core factors influencing the number of farms and their development that were completed by empirical studies on the dynamics of structural change. Other aspects of structural change are yet less well understood, such as the trend of farm diversification into tourism, direct marketing and new crops/ animals on the one hand and farm specialization on the other. Although vast literature exists, for example, on direct marketing, we have not yet understood what influences the share of farms engaged in this field of diversification. Particularly transaction costs economics could probably contribute to an answer to a greater extent than it has. [gemäß den Informationen des Anbieters - according to site editor's information]|
